Kagome Group strives to reduce energy consumption, including consumption per unit of production, by enhancing its energy-saving activities in the production process and increasing its efforts to improve production efficiency.
*The period of calculation for our environmental performance data was April to March, from FY2011 to FY2014. This was changed to January to December in FY2015, reflecting the change in the fiscal year end.

Reduction of Energy Consumption

Production activities require a large amount of energy, including heavy oil and electricity.
At Kagome, we regularly check the results of our activities for the efficient use of energy and energy-saving activities at all plants in Japan to identify issues and study improvement methods in our efforts to ensure efficient energy use. In FY2016, we continued to take measures to reduce energy use, such as energy-saving patrols and the promotion of the replacement of lights with LED lights.

Reduction of CO2 Emissions

In FY2016, CO2 emissions from all Kagome plants in Japan increased approx. 0.5% from the FY2015 level, to 39,400 t of CO2, while emissions per unit of production decreased approx. 2% year on year, to 100 kg CO2/kl.

Energy-Saving Projects at Plants - For Reducing Waste and Loss of Energy

In 2016, we launched energy-saving projects at all of our plants. We took thoroughgoing measures to eliminate waste and energy loss, including recovery of heat from hot wastewater, reduction of heat loss from pipes due to radiation, and power conservation with On/Off management of equipment. As a result of these projects, we were able to reduce specific energy consumption at the plants.

Promotion of Introduction of Energy-Saving Equipment

Kagome continues to strive to reduce specific energy consumption by promoting the replacement of aging equipment with energy-saving versions.

  • - Introduction of water-lubricated air compressor and improvement of operating efficiency (Ibaraki Plant)
  • - Efficiency improvement of aeration tank for wastewater treatment (Nasu Plant)

Reduction of Energy Consumption through Heat Recovery from Hot Water from Ketchup Pasteurizer

Kagome has created an energy balance flow chart at all of its plants, which it uses to identify points of generated energy loss and improve energy use efficiency. In 2016, we reduced loss of thermal energy at Kozakai Plant by reusing the hot water discharged from the ketchup cooling machine.
